Some are way too hard for us to process, some are delightful; Some we unwillingly forget, some we can’t remember even after wanting to; Some we DO NOT want to remember, yet we do.
They creep into our mind when no one is looking and leave a big, chaotic mess behind. It simply gets way too overwhelming and we look to get rid of them, rarely succeeding. In the midst of this repeating cycle we forget that these experiences ‘we do not want to remember’, are the ones which gave us our conscience.
We could keep making the same mistakes countless number of times, keep re-living our worst nightmares, let our pasts take control of our own life. Or maybe we could open the book of our past experiences, read through, take notes and finish it off, once and for all.
For some of us, being humans, it is triggering to think about our experiences. The book for these once opened, makes for tedious work to close them. The stories on the pages, they start sucking our soul. Making it hard to even see them clearly, let alone making notes. So, we keep them closed, in the far corners of the library of our souls.
We are not always the ones to be opening these books, they can also be opened by others. The stories can be manipulated, re-written, and then kept open. Making it even harder for us to close them back fully. The words leak out of the books like a creepy melody, making us slowly re-live our pasts, our mistakes and our experiences one by one, bit by bit. This makes us paralyzed, unable to move, and certainly takes away our ability to keep the books away. And so we keep these books away, from ourselves and especially others.
There comes one day when we meet a gentle soul. Who slowly reaches back into our library, grabs the books and slowly opens them up. So gently that none of the stories slip away. They then have the power to manipulate the stories again or leave them with a sweet touch, lock them up and give us closure.
This power that they have, we are scared to give. Which leads us with no one to trust, and everyone to fear. And so these are the experiences ‘we do not want to remember’.
